Tis the season..

As the nurse aide unpacked the christmas decorations today It suddenly dawned on me - omg, xmas is nearly here! I havent even thought about christmas pressies this year, not sure if i will, I will try get something for the nieces and nephews, - can't let the kiddies go without.
We have had a good week this week, Brendan is up, staying at ronald mcdonald house, and Emily and I in hospital, but for most of the week Emily has been allowed out for a few hours each day,as her neutrophil count has been high enough.
Emily stll isn't really eating, but having a few spoons a day so that is someting at least.
The nutricionist has put Emily on 20hour per day feeds to keep her calorie intake up, so that is good.
I think the next lot of chemo is due to start around the 14th dec, so I am expecting to be stuck in hospital for christmas day, but if there is a way we can get Emily over to ronald mcdonalds for the day I will do it! fingers crossed.
I am surprised that Emi hasnt lost all of her hair yet, she lost most of it after the very first lot of treatment and was left with a wee 'ring' of it around her forehead - cutey, and now some is starting to grow back on the rest of her head! but I wont be surprised if she does lose it again.
Emily has had a really good week, off the morphine and panadol, anti nausia drug finished, only one lot of meds a day at the moment, so very low matinence for the nurses, great! keep it up Emi!

This is how I find Emily most mornings.....can't be comfortable :)lol

  1. Hi Emily and Family,
Wow Emily, what a brave wee soul you are! I work with some children your age in a preschool in Christchurch and it makes me so sad that you have had to go through more than I have ever I have had to go through in your short little life but I am so happy that you continue to smile and especially enjoy painting (I hear paint is just DELICIOUS these days too!)!! I also take part in Camp Quality so know some of those cool nurses who take care of you in the hospital so know you are in the best hands and will continue smiling for many days to come.
    Lots of love,
    Kate

  4. Hey Princess Emily!
Here are the links to Spirit Sparkplugs like mentioned on the trademe post:
    website: www.spiritsparkplugs.com
    facebook: www.facebook.com/spiritsparkplugs

I have put a link up to your blog on the facebook page for others to come in and support...

Have you ever heard of caringbridge before? Its an AWESOME updates website that send out emails each time you update to all your followers and is quite easy to use. www.caringbridge.org I (Kylee) also have a caringbridge website, as I set up Spirit Sparkplugs through my own journey of fighting a disease within my nervous system the past two years which I have been home bound with. If you want to see what the websites look like to use one you can see what they look like here: www.caringbridge.org/visit/kyleeblack I find them really good to use and there is an amazing network of "caringbridge family", others battling illnesses, like childhood cancers who all offer each other support.. There are a few other kids with AML, and babies fighting cancers, I would be happy to put you in touch with them, I know of a 3 year old who has beat AML and THRIVING.. Praying Christmas blessings for you and your family this year Emily! Bless you!!

    Many kind Christmas wishes, Kylee

  5. Have put some money in your account tonight. We are very lucky to have a noisy, healthy five year old and can't imagine how tough the tough moments must be for you. Spend the cash absolutely gratuitously... just have fun. Merry Christmas - from friends you haven't met yet in Australia.

  6. You know what, my dad died of cancer back in 2003, he had stomach cancer in the place the esophagus joins the stomach, he had a grueling surgery, but that wasn't enough, the doctor told my mum it had already spread to his lungs and that the surgery was pointless. My mum had to provide and look after me and my brother, she could barely provide for us, and we had to watch my dad slowly and painfully die, how can you be so greedy and turn to the media when people like our family are much needier than you, you go on trade me and go on tv for what? Sympathy? Attention? We never tried to get money out of people, we had to struggle and fight, so I hope you're happy with your-selfs.

  7. to the the parents of this precious little girl, i would not take any notice of the comment above as this is a total different situation... this is a little girl that is sick and needs the help of there parents to get them through... the artwork your daughter has done is just georgus! and it is not like you have asked for donations, people have offered it to you!

My nana also had a fite with cancer and adventually it took her 1 year later, and know how hard it is kemo and all that goes with it. but your little girl is 1 and need the strength of both of yous.

dont get down about the above comment is that person ovasily only cares for themselves and nothing else..

go along with what you are doing and i just hope everything turns are ok for you emily and other children in need of some help..

  10. Hi,i recently lost my 2 year old son to leukemia this year, his name was Michael.i saw your trade me add about Emily's artwork that led me here.i just want to let you know that my love and thoughts are with you and your husband, things can be very hard at times, from mental breakdowns while at home by yourself to quiet teardrops slipping out the side of your eye while sitting next to your child's hospital bed watching them sleep in pain.just knowing that you cannot do nothing but watch and hold the little baby's hand, i hope and pray to god that little Emily wins this fight and is able to enjoy a healthy life.i must go now it is hard for me to carry on without shedding a tear thinking about it.i just want to wish Emily and you both a very merry Xmas and all the best for the new year.
